Lately, my skin has been so out of control. It would start to get oily in an hour or two, and there are more clogged pores than usual because of that. So, I got me a clay mask. I've never used a clay mask before because many people complains about it stripping their skin, but nothing seems to help with my currently oily skin so I'm giving it a try. I decided to go with the Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask from Innisfree since it has received many positive reviews. Plus, it's very affordable so I won't regret buying it in the case that clay mask doesn't work on me. I have to admit I expected quite a lot from it, and well, I'm not disappointed.
The Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask is a clay mask that claims to remove sebum and impurities inside pores as well as providing exfoliation. It is ideal for all skin type with pore concern but I'd say it's especially great for oilier skin types. It's good to know that this mask doesn't contain harmful alcohol/ethanol so it won't dry out my skin. From just looking at the ingredient list, I have quite a positive outlook for this product :)
The mask comes in a 100 ml tub that feels somewhat fragile. You wouldn't want to drop this. It is not really heavy or bulky so traveling with it should be hassle-free. I believe Innisfree has come out with a new packaging for this, and it looks more durable and more suitable for travel (but comes with 200 ml of product).
The tub comes with a clear cover but not with a spatula. If you are concern about bacteria, you can find a separate spatula to use with this. But, I find it easier to just use my clean fingers. I suggest that you keep the cover for hygiene reason - and it also helps prevent the product from spilling onto the lid and becoming all messy.
The mask has a thick, dense texture so it is a bit difficult to scoop out with fingers - spatula will do a better job if you have one (damn Innisfree, why you no give spatula?). However, it spread easily on skin. There are small capsules but they are not abrasive so my skin didn't become irritated or anything. Although it requires a generous amount to completely cover my skin (maybe I just have a big face), I think this will last me quite some time given I use it once a week.
I apply this all over my face after I cleansed and toned. The direction says to leave it on for 10 minutes, and I recommend you not going over as it might be over-drying your skin. This applies nicely and rinses off easily without leaving any residue. It is fortunately not drying, so I'm quite pleased. Immediately after my first time using the mask, I noticed my skin felt more clean and skin texture became more even. My face also became softer, and pores appeared smaller and more refined. Anyway, don't confuse 'pores appearing smaller' with 'pores becoming smaller' because they are two different things. Pore size is mostly determined by genetics and cannot be reduced, people. Yes, I know reality is harsh. Sometimes, pores appear larger than they actually are because of impurities and sebum within them. So, by removing those yucky things, your pores can appear smaller. What I'm trying to say is that this mask doesn't reduce my pore size but rather make them appear smaller by clearing them. Nonetheless, it cannot completely clear the stubborn blackheads on my nose although it makes the are become less congested. But for easier-to-remove impurities and sebum, this does a nice job in removing them :)
QUICK TAKE
- Non-drying
- No irritations or breakouts
- Great job in removing excess sebum and impurities
- Evens out skin texture
- Softens and slightly brightens skin after use
- Pores 'appear' smaller and more refined
- Cannot completely clear stubborn blackheads on my nose but makes the area less congested
- Alcohol-free
- Applies and rinses off easily
- Nice cooling effect
I think the most notable thing about this mask is that it makes my skin texture so soft and refined within just mere 10 minutes. Although it is not as effective on blackheads on my nose, it does a good job on the rest of my face. It is my first clay mask and I'm looking forward to use it every week. I'd recommend this for anyone with pore concerns who are looking for a deep cleansing mask!
Unique post, its creative for innisfree to use volcanic ash as face mask. Would have never knew that and korean products tend to not have harsh skincare. Or well ones I have experienced. What do you think?

Wow it was sold out in all 4 stores? I didn't know it was selling that well lol. And yes, you should def. get one if you have a chance :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely worth a try if you have pore concern! :)
ReplyDeleteI pretty much agree with you :) I think Korean skincare products are generally less harsh than Western ones, and more affordable. I have sensitive skin and I've never had bad breakouts from any Korean product yet. Well, maybe because I have Asian skin? But there are also pretty good Western brands like Clarins and Clinique that I like :)
ReplyDeleteThis clay pack is super raved about on the Internet! I saw every blogger, literally EVERYONE owning this clay pack and saying it's awesome and like a heavens sent lol. I will give this one a try too when I have money ㅠㅠ .. I like how you didn't write 'makes the pores smaller' because you're basically right haha. Other bloggers never write 'makes them appear smaller', except you haha. I wish they would give a spatula to this pack too.. I hate when you're trying to get the product out of the packaging and half of the product is under your finger nails >_< ..
ReplyDeleteThanks for this review, Stella! You're one of my current favorite blogs eventhough I'm not following you for a long time but judging from your text and photos I saw so far,,,you definitely are! qwq I'm happy I randomnly found your blog lol xD
