"Cheon Song Yi's Lipsticks" - YSL Rouge Pur Couture '52 Rosy Coral' & Iope Water Fit Lipstick '44 Forever Pink' - Reviews & Swatches

The most popular Korean drama at the moment can be none other than 'My Love from the Star.' Apart from the unique storyline, the lead actress Gianna Jun's fashion and make-up have become the talk of the town (she was even sponsored by top designer brands such as Hermes, Chanel, and the like). In the drama, she is seen sporting many shades of bright lipsticks, and basically whatever she wore got sold out amazingly fast. The two lipsticks she actually used - the YSL Rouge Pur Couture in 52 Rosy Coral and Iope Water Fit Lipstick in 44 Forever Pink - are super hard to find. But, luckily, I ran into some. Read on for the reviews and swatches of these two.

Some screenshots of Gianna Jun aka Cheon Song Yi rocking bright lips.

YSL, as always, comes with a pretty, fancy gold packaging. Iope's tube, on the other hand, is sleek and simple. For those of you who are not familiar with IOPE, it is a Korean mid-high end cosmetics brand well-known for its scientifically advanced skin care line.

YSL Rosy Coral is a pigmented, bright pinky coral shade as the name implies. The texture is more on a matte side with a teeny bit of sheen. It is so pretty and flattering I almost forgave myself for splurging on this baby (I bid on Ebay for $80 - yes, I don't know what I was thinking). Iope Forever Pink, on the other hand, comes off a bit sheer and glossy. It is a medium pink that is appropriate for daily wear.

Unlike how it turns out on my arm, YSL Rosy Coral turns out a bit more pinky on my lips. However, that's not a problem because pink looks more flattering on me anyway. The shade is bright - it is definitely brighter than in the photos, like twice as bright - but not too neon-y that it makes my face looks dark and weird. I can't say enough how much I adore this! It is absolutely Spring-perfect.

Iope Forever Pink goes on like a tinted lip balm for me but more pigmented. The pink is not too bright like I thought it'd be but it's still pretty bright. It might not look that bright in the photos but I can say it is quite so.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

I bought these two shades simply because I love how they look on the actress in the drama. However, I fell in love with them head over heels. They are super gorgeous and high quality. Let me go over YSL Rosy Coral first. It glides on smoothly, is creamy, and is moisturizing. Even though it's doesn't come in a glossy, tinted balm-like formula, it feels very comfortable on my lips and doesn't accentuate the dry flakes. It is pretty long lasting but it may not survive well through eating and drinking. The shade is just awesome - very gorgeous and flattering. Now, on to Iope Forever Pink. It is not a very pigmented product but the shade is pretty and the moisturizing effect is nice for everyday use. It is also glossy and non-sticky. It's not as long lasting as the YSL but it sure lasts longer than many of my tinted lipsticks (such as the Dior Lip Glow).

YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Rosy Coral is available at YSL for $35 (Waitlist)

IOPE Water Fit Lipstick in Forever Pink is available at W2Beauty for $32

Have you seen the drama yet? Have you been on a hunt for these as well? Feel free to share you thoughts!

  3. Lucky! It was all sold out in some parts of Asia!! I think I would prefer the YSL one over the IOPE one since I prefer ones that don't look too glossy. And the YSL one looks gorgeous! It looks so velvety and luxurious! I need to get my hands on these! Which one is you favourite out of the two? Thanks for the review!

  9. Actually discovered your blog by searching YSL #52, I just got it from Saks yesterday. Can't believe it pulls pink on you coz it's almost neon coral on my lips, must be the lip pigment coz we have similar skin tone. I love it with a touch of gloss on top tho!

  10. Yea I didn't expect it to look so pink on me. But it is still a lovely color ! May turn up more coral if I use a concealer underneath so I gotta try that :)

  11. Hi. My sister and I tried to hunt this color down in the States and at the time it was named Rouge Rose but the shade was nothing close to that of Rosy Coral. YSL sent us "the correct one" twice and it was still incorrect. So they e-mailed the factory and told us they would send us one when the product was corrected. Just wondering where did you locate this shade and did you have any trouble locating it??

  12. Wow, that was a big fail from YSL. I had a hard time locating one because it was sold out everywhere. I eventually found it on Ebay. The seller was rated well and seemed trustworthy so I decided to purchase it. Plus, it was the least overpriced. But I still paid like twice the retail price. I hope they sent you the correct shade and gave you some discount for the trouble they put you through! lol I think they restocked it now because I saw it online a while ago.

  13. They "restocked it" but when I order it it's still Rouge Rose. I think they may have just stopped production in the US. I know of people still on the wait list in South Korea so it must still be produced for other countries. YSL refunded us and promises to call if Rosy Coral is ever produced again or "when the problem is fixed".
