I don't really shop for drugstore cosmetics much and that goes without a reason really. I guess I'm just more of a Sephora girl. But, from time to time, there are products from drugstore brands that pique my interest. Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer, also known as Apocalips Lip Lacquer in the UK, is such product. While I was aimlessly wandering around my local CVS, it caught my attention and I decided to pick up three shades - 101 Celestial, 102 Nova, and 401 Aurora.
The Show Off Lip Lacquer is a product that has intense pigmentation of a lipstick and shine of a lip gloss. As Rimmel put it, "it's neither a lipstick nor a gloss... It's BIGGER than both! " The packaging is quite pretty for a drugstore brand.
The product comes with a doe-foot applicator. There is a concave in the middle that the product gathers in, but it's just the right amount of product to use for the entire upper and lower lips.
101 Celestial is a beautiful peach. This is a shade that I see myself wearing most often. I personally think that it is something that would wear well with any skin tone. 102 Nova is a medium pink which is totally perfect for girly looks. 401 Aurora is somewhat a vibrant reddish coral - a shade that I can't wait to pull off for a night out.
OVERALL THOUGHT
I didn't expect to like it but it turns out to be a pretty impressive product for me. It doesn't glide on that smoothly during application but the end result is quite satisfying. I'd suggest that you use fingers to blend it out by gently dabbing - that prevents over-application and makes the product sticks onto the lips better. The Show Off Lip Lacquer is non-drying, very pigmented, and quite glossy (although the shine goes away within about an hour of wear). Plus, it doesn't accentuate dry flakes, which is the quality I always look for first in a lip product. However, I wish it would be less sticky and lasts longer.

Believe it or not but I don't actually own one despite them being out in UK for almost 2 years now! I just have always forget to put one in my basket whenever I go into my local drugstore! 401 look great, I might just have to go out and get one now… Thanks for the review~

ReplyDeleteOh hey, AURORA! I've heard great things about these, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about sticky. I do really love Aurora though! Such a pretty shade!
