Cleansing water was a huge trend last year or so. Everybody was talking and raving about it, especially about the Bioderma Sensibio H20. I hesitated to jump on the bandwagon as I doubted the cleansing power of 'water.' Come on, it does kinda sound gimmicky. I almost gave in several times, but my Shu Uemura cleansing oil was working well for me so I resisted the urge to splurge. It was not hard since Bioderma was only available online to me at the time. Then, last week, I saw the highly-raved-about Bioderma Sensibio at my local Boots, and I could not walk away without grabbing one. You know what, thank god I did! Oh my, I almost feel sorry for doubting its effectiveness. I'm pretty sure this is probably like the 100th time you hear someone goes crazy about this Bioderma cleansing water, but it truly deserves all the love!
Bioderma Sensibio H20 is a cleansing water formulated for sensitive skin. I bought the smallest size (100ml) just to try it out first. It's expensive, and this thing doesn't seem like it will last me that long, especially if I use it everyday. But, it's so awesome that the price really doesn't bother me much. I'm definitely going back for the regular or the large bottle.
The formula is fragrance-free so it is ideal for those with sensitive skin. It is rated as 'best' product on Beautypedia, where beauty products are scrutinized and rated based on their ingredients. The site bashes a lot of beauty products and rarely label any as a 'best' product, so this certainly shows how awesome Bioderma Sensibio is. The product has a watery consistency that doesn't feel sticky when used, nor does it leaves residue. After cleansing, my skin did not feel irritated or stripped. It just felt soft and clean. It claims that rinsing is not necessary, but I still go head with my usual double cleansing anyway just to be safe.
Now, here is a before and after shot. The cleansing water did remove all the makeup I swatch on my arm. It took me 2 soaked cotton pads and a couple of gentle swipes to get the job done. It was relatively more difficult to remove waterproof or products with amazing lasting power, but it did remove them without the need to rub harshly. When I wear light-medium makeup, it usually takes 2 cotton pads for eyes and 2-3 for face. I'd say it's not the most economical and eco-friendly way to remove your makeup, compared to cleansing oil and whatnot, but it is the easiest and most sensitive way to do it for me thus far. With cleansing oil, there can be residue sometimes if you're not careful.
Just to demonstrate the cleansing power of this product, this is how much it could remove with a single swipe. It almost got rid of everything, except the gel liner (which I apply very generously lol).
QUICK TAKE
- Gentle on sensitive skin - did not irritate or strip my skin
- Effectively removes makeup without the need for harsh rubbing
- More difficult to remove water-proof makeup and makeup with strong lasting power but they do come off
- Did not feel sticky
- Did not leave residue after cleansing
- Rinsing doesn't feel necessary but double cleanse anyway for better result
- Doesn't last long if used everyday and requires a lot of cotton pads daily (at least 3-4 for face and eyes with light-medium makeup on) so it's not the most economical product to remove makeup (well, if you're rich then never mind this)
OK, this is my first time to try cleansing water and I'm hooked! It's perfect for me as someone who wears light-medium makeup and think makeup removal is a pain. If you usually wear heavy makeup, this may not be the best choice for you. I'm already looking forward to get this in full size. Have you tried Bioderma Sensibio before and how do you feel about it? Or if anyone has even better cleansing water to recommend, please feel free to do so! =)

I've heard amazing things about this and I got a neat mini sample size to try as this isn't an affordable product here even in that small size! I like how my skin felt after using it but I doubt I could use this effectively as a make up remover as I use tons of super waterproof mascara and who wants to tug and rub your skin hard? I'm sticking to my regular oil remover for my eyes! But I love their blue sebium formula bioderma as a toner!
ReplyDeleteI agree that this is more suitable for the face. Since I wear light eye makeup, it works fine for me around the eye area. But if you wear super waterproof products or heavy eye makeup, it's definitely better to go for the oil remover like you mentioned :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Bioderma! And I admit I doubted the product as well, I seriously thought it was just an over-hyped product.
ReplyDeleteI went from the smallest bottle, to bulk buying it when I travelled to Asia! I am totes in love with it, I am glad you feel the same way too :)

Hi Stella, i am new to your blog and i really like your review! :) anyway i need your advise, is it okay if i use this cleansing water for cream type of foundation? :)
ReplyDeleteI think it is effective in removing any face makeup, including cream foundations. Just make sure to keep wiping until the cotton pad comes off clean :)
